Like everyone who joins Twitter, I’m trying to optimize my usage of it and find the best way to mesh it into my life in a fun and productive manner. Sarah Dopp’s post, “More Twitter Tips,” had a terrific tip I’ve been needing. Since I have unlimited Internet on my Blackberry, but a limited (~200/month) SMS [...]

Cities mark Earth Hour -- a single hour of energy conservation -- today. ![]()
Sydney, Australia is among world's first city to "go dark":

Google's home page is black to mark the event, today, as well.
Google - Earth Hour
Anyone can do this... turn off all your lights from 8 to 9 PM. Light up some candles -- pretend it's a power outage!
-- turn on the camp lantern, play some scrabble or Monopoly, look at
the stars (if it's not cloudy) or make up stories about the people that
lived where you are, thousands of years ago, etc.

Our A/C is dead — the compressor died and the coil is rusted. Justin’s there right now with the A/C guy, finding out what the $$ damage is going to be, but we’re relieved to hear there’s a no-interest payment plan so it isn’t the instant, lump sum financial drain we were (slowly) saving up [...]

*** ALL GONE, thanks for playing. ***
On the off chance that there are any Texas residents or visitors reading my vox blog who aren't also familiar with my WildTexas.com website, if you join our Wild Texas Discussion Forums (membership is free of charge) ASAP and drop me a message in response to this thread, I'll happily give you one of our two remaining State Parks Pass coupons good for 50% off one night of camping on any two-night stay at any Texas State Park or other TPWD-managed park that permits overnight camping. I don't think you need to have a State Park Pass for the coupon to be accepted.
Both of the coupons are good for "50% OFF CAMPING FOR ONE NIGHT | Expires September 2008" and must be presented at CHECK-IN at a Texas State Park.
Fine print on the coupons:
"Coupon valid for intended use only. Valid only for campsite or regular screened shelter. Not valid on holiday weekends or with any other offer. No cash value. TPWD not responsible for lost coupon. Good for one use. One coupon per visit. Subject to availability. Non-refundable."
I'll update this entry when both coupons have been spoken for.
You MUST be a member of the WildTexas.com Discussion Forums to claim a coupon, so be sure to create a login on WildTexas.com if you intend to claim one of the coupons. You can send me a PM (private message) over on WildTexas.com, or if you contact me here be sure to include your WildTexas.com member name as well as your mailing address.

Moo!
Now I definitely have to get myself some Moo cards--finally a sleek, simple way to carry them in my purse (read: diaper bag)!
This is not a political message, but rather a human one.
Five years ago today, the U.S. began its shock and awe campaign--Operation Iraqi Freedom--in Iraq. Almost 4,000 American soldiers have perished since March 19, 2003, and our allies have taken casualties as well. At least 29,395 U.S. troops have been wounded in action, returning home with deeply scarring wounds, physical as well as psychological.
My thoughts and hopes go out to all whose lives have been affected by this war--servicemen and women, their families and the peaceful citizens of Iraq and Afghanistan that find themselves in the wrong place at the wrong time.
From our Links page here on GeekHabitat.com--
Honor the Fallen:
As of March 18, 2008, the Iraq War has resulted in the deaths of 3,990 Americans, two Australians, 175 Britons, 13 Bulgarians, one Czech, seven Danes, two Dutch, two Estonians, one Fijian, one Hungarian, 33 Italians, one Kazakh, one Korean, three Latvian, 22 Poles, three Romanians, five Salvadoran, four Slovaks, 11 Spaniards, two Thai and 18 Ukrainians... and an unknown number of Iraqis.
