From Justin: —- Took the plunge and traded a 1/2-ton pickup truck for a 30lb mountain bike for the commute to work this morning. It was quite the experience, here’s my blog post: Bike Geek: A carbon-free day… When it was all said and done, with 26 miles or so of riding, I saved two gallons of gas and burned [...]

I do this occasionally so this shouldn’t come as any surprise. I’ve been a long-time reader of Eka’s (Erika’s) blog since even long before Samson (Sammy) was born in late February 2006; she, Sammy and Jay are my “virtual family” insofar as my family and close friends know them through my conversations. Anyway, Sammy’s heart [...]

Reposted from Twitter because I’m too pissed off to want to blog it – * Sigh. The tire we had patched last saturday (and left a camping trip early TO patch)? It’s FLAT. * There’s a RAZOR BLADE in my tire. I am beginning to think I need to check behind and under my car anytime [...]

I’ve found that as my time gets stretched in more directions, it’s far easier to post short (maximum 140 characters) “tweets” on Twitter.com and avoid blogging altogether. I’m not saying it’s a good thing, but it is what it is. I’m making some great contacts, not just professionally but other moms and fellow geek [...]

Hug your parents close, if they are still living, or call them just to chat. Got an email: "I'm now an orphan. He passed 20 minutes ago."
The email was from a friend (Bill) who works with Justin; the friend's dad just passed away with Parkinsons & Alzheimers, and he lost his mom a couple years ago.
On a somewhat related note, I read this book several years ago and just this evening watched the movie (directed by Sean Penn). In many ways, it was the ideal movie to close the day, along with hugs shared with Sara, my brother and my mom and dad. (Love you guys!)
Our A/C is dead — the compressor died and the coil is rusted. Justin’s there right now with the A/C guy, finding out what the $$ damage is going to be, but we’re relieved to hear there’s a no-interest payment plan so it isn’t the instant, lump sum financial drain we were (slowly) saving up [...]

When I took this photo, I had only read a few pages of Rob's book (Schuyler's Monster: A Father's Journey with His Wordless Daughter) because Sara took awhile to drift to sleep. Nevermind my stern facial expression -- that's just an unfortunate byproduct of a headache (note the Thermacare pad on my neck) and trying to imagine where the Blackberry in my left hand is aiming.
If this book isn't on your radar, it should be. I preordered my copy, after having followed Rob's various blogs over the years...since before Schuyler was born.

After a week of short posts and URL sharing in lieu of entries, I thought it might be time to actually write an entry for a change. My bicycle trainer has not arrived yet, but the climbing block (goes under the bike’s front tire) arrived on Thursday. I’ll be buying a Garmin cadence sensor soon to [...]

I happened to click on a link I didn’t notice before in the template footer of my brother’s blog — a link to SaveBabyGavin.com. Yet another wonderful little one who has gone through, and will go through, more medically than I can fathom — in January of this year, his mom donated a kidney so he [...]

Yes, I blame my Mom. She started it… (wall-to-wall cleaning and closet diving, that is.) Justin knows me too well, so when he told me Grandma & Grandpa M. were back from Dallas and would like to see Sara, he cautioned me, “Don’t do too much… R-E-L-A-X!” as he headed out the door with [...]
